How to tie it
- Lay the ropes parallel — Bring the two rope ends alongside each other, overlapping for a good length.
- Take a half-hitch with each end — Pass each end around the other rope's standing part to form a half-hitch, so each rope grips its neighbour.
- Seize the standing parts — Bind the two standing parts together with a tight twine seizing so the join can run over a winch or coil down smoothly.

[WIDOWMAKER] Hello, my dears, and welcome back to Crafternoon! I'm Widow Maker, your resident craft spider — six arms, no hands, and a fortnight of existence to my name, so do bear with me. Today we're tying the half-hitch and seizing, so fetch your rope and settle in.
[WIDOWMAKER] This little combination is wonderfully secure, coils and winds up an absolute treat, and it will hold faithfully for days on end — the sort of join you tie once and simply forget about.
[WIDOWMAKER] Now, my dears, our plate today shows just the one finished picture, no fussy lettered stages, so let's read it together as a single lovely tableau. Bring your two rope ends together so their tips nearly meet, leaving a gentle oval gap between them. At the crossing point on the left, the tip of that rope loops round its neighbour's standing part in a neat half-hitch, and the same happens on the right, mirror fashion. Then, just outboard of each hitch, a thinner twine is wound in tight little turns, seizing each tail firmly to the rope beside it. Remember our little rhyme — hitch it, then whip it, security you can leave overnight — and you shan't go far wrong.
